Common questions about UD Cloud's full range of cloud, hosting, server and email services. Clear, direct answers to give you confidence before and after you buy.
01
Products & plan selection
What's the difference between Managed Cloud, Multi-Cloud, OpenCloud, Dedicated Server, Colocation and Cloud Hosting?
Tell the six plans apart in one line, then see who manages them, from fully self-service to fully managed by UD. Click a plan name to visit its page.
What's the difference between cloud servers, dedicated servers and VPS?
VPS and cloud servers are both virtualised; cloud servers offer greater flexibility and scalability. A dedicated server gives a single business an entire physical machine, with performance unaffected by other users, ideal for workloads with high compute speed and compliance requirements.
Should I choose a Hong Kong, China or Taiwan data centre?
Generally by where your main audience is: Hong Kong for HK and the Greater Bay Area; China (after ICP filing) for the mainland; Taiwan for the Taiwan market. If your business spans regions, consider Multi-Cloud Management, or let us help plan during a consultation. See Multi-Cloud Management →.
Which plan should a startup or new company choose?
If you only need a website and email, Cloud Hosting (Basic to Professional) is enough; for more flexibility or app development, an entry-level OpenCloud plan is a good start. All plans support flexible upgrades to scale with your business. See OpenCloud →.
02
Pricing, contracts & payment
Do all monthly fees require prepayment? What do you get for prepaying longer?
All monthly items require at least one year's prepayment. The longer you prepay, the bigger the discount, below are the prepay ladders for two main product lines.
Cloud Hosting (Power and up)
Minimum 6-month prepay

What currency are fees charged in?
All fees are in Hong Kong dollars (HKD).
Can I upgrade or downgrade after signing?
Yes. Service upgrades are free; downgrades incur a HK$375 setup fee, and all plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Terminating before the minimum prepay period may incur extra fees, so it’s best to clarify during the consultation.
How do I get a quote for "depends on capacity" items?
Some items (e.g. the Fortinet cloud firewall) are priced by actual capacity. Contact our consultants via the enquiry form at the bottom for a quote based on your needs.
03
Cloud migration
How long does cloud migration take? Will it affect daily operations?
It depends on system scale and complexity. UD uses a phased migration, and in most cases users won't notice the migration is happening.

1AssessFree system assessment, a phased migration plan by scale
2Parallel runOld and new environments run in parallel, comparing data integrity and performance
3CutoverCut over in a low-traffic window, executed by dedicated engineers
4ValidateFull validation after cutover, confirming stable operation
With parallel running and fast rollback in place, cutover risk is controlled and you can revert to the original environment instantly if needed.
I have an existing hosting or email provider, will migration cause downtime?
No. UD offers a new-customer transfer offer including seamless website and email migration, free domain transfer, and a rebate of your old provider's unused monthly fees; all migration is handled by dedicated UD engineers, with uninterrupted service before and after.
Can I bring my own server image to UD?
Yes. OpenCloud and dedicated servers support importing custom images to preserve your existing environment; Managed Cloud will also discuss the best migration path during the consultation.
Who designs and executes the migration?
Managed Cloud and Multi-Cloud Management are led end-to-end by UD's local engineers; for other plans, migration assistance can be added via a service enquiry.
04

Do UD's network and data centres meet international standards?

Can data be stored in a specified region?
Yes. UD can deploy workloads in Hong Kong, China or other specified data centres per your compliance and business needs, helping meet data-sovereignty, industry-regulation and customer-data-protection requirements.
Do you provide DDoS protection and firewalls?
Yes. Cloud Hosting and Cloud Email include basic DDoS protection and malware scanning; server plans can add a shared firewall, Sophos anti-virus or Fortinet cloud firewall and other enterprise-grade security.
Do you provide data backup and disaster recovery?
All plans include backup (Cloud Hosting, Email and Storage plans retain 3 days). Server and enterprise plans can deploy across multiple data centres to build a complete disaster-recovery (DR) architecture.

06
Account & management
How do I add value-added services?
Existing customers can purchase most value-added services themselves via the UD customer portal, with new features usually taking effect immediately; items needing approval (e.g. domain transfer, changing .hk ownership, Fortinet configuration) are followed up by an engineer after the request.
How do we manage a shared account for multiple people?
The UD customer portal supports multi-user permission management, assigning different access by role. For enterprise SSO integration, a solution is available via consultation.

Do I need an AI engineer to use the AI Agent features?
No. UD provides a standardised connection interface and setup guide; common use cases (auto-classification, draft replies, data extraction) can be enabled with simple settings; for deeper integration, contact a consultant via the form at the bottom.
