Understanding Botnets
Botnets, refer to a collection of infected computer devices that are controlled by hackers for the purpose of launching coordinated malicious attacks. Initially, hackers exploit vulnerabilities in these devices to gain control, eventually amassing a large number of compromised computers. These compromised devices are then used to execute various activities, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, sending spam emails, ransomware attacks, and cryptocurrency mining.
If your device becomes infected by a botnet, the first step is to disconnect it from the network. Next, use scanning software to inspect the device for any malware. Ensure that the device's operating system, applications, and anti-malware software are up to date, and check for available patches.
To prevent your device from becoming part of a botnet, it's essential to regularly update your device, use a firewall, and, most importantly, install anti-malware software. If you encounter suspicious pop-ups, websites, or emails, avoid clicking on them!
Botnets pose a highly destructive network threat, but by maintaining the security of your devices, keeping them up to date, and staying vigilant, you can reduce the risk of falling victim to such attacks.
